‘Magic’ is a cover of Olivia Newton-John’s disco classic from 1980, which comes alive again at the hands of a trio of well experienced house-makers, Lenny Fontana, Gabi Newman and Cevin Fisher.

Lenny Fontana is one of the most celebrated producers in  house music, with a discography a mile long reaching as far back as the early 90’s, to the golden days of house when he and his contemporaries, the likes of MAW, Roger Sanchez and Danny Tenaglia were the Kings of US House.

His early releases on Kult, Public Demand and Waako were the beginning of a long and lustrous career that has seen him release music on what seems like every key house label there ever was, FFRR, Positiva, Defected, Nite Grooves, Azuli, Slip N Slide, Strictly Rhythm and Cr2 to name a few..

The collaboration with Spanish resident Gabi Newman has proved a very interesting one. Gabi himself has had numerous remixes and tracks released, Toolroom, Vendetta, Absolutely, and Ian Carey’s Gfab labels have all trusted his remix skills, and this is the second time they appear on Slip N Slide together.  Their remix of Conga Squad’s ‘Discofried’ was well received by tastemakers worldwide.

Cevin Fisher is…. Well, he’s Cevin Fisher, legendary NYC producer and DJ with some of the biggest clubland anthems under his belt  going back to the early 90’s..

What we hear on this track though is Cevin Fisher 2.0, with a hard-as-nails, techno-fied, bassdriven monster-sound, ready to bust any speaker you are willing to risk. After some time of writing and performing only vocals for other producers, Like Layo & Bushwacka!, Coyu, Tiger Stripes, Seamus Haji, Erick Morillo Harry Choo Choo Romero, Jose Nunez and Supernova, he’s back at the controls and you can really feel the energy he puts into it, simply outstanding!

How did you end up collaborating with Tom De Neef?
I got the instrumental through my manager, Eric McMahon, and loved it straight away.

What feeling did you want to bring to the track?
I wanted to bring a feeling of happiness, good memories, laughter, dancing and a summer vibe to the track

What’s it like having family in the industry as well? Are you all supportive of each other?
Really it’s no different from any other family but i can speak to my brother (Dave Angel) and sister (Monie Love) about music and the music industry and how it works. We are a very supportive family.

Solar is a great soundtrack to the summer. What are your plans for this year?
I plan to buckle down in tunnel vision mode and write some strong songs, collaborating with some great producers and get all that is inside my mind lyrically out there.

Who inspired you to get into music?
My late father inspired me to get into music as he was a musician himself. There were always jam sessions in my living room and that was like a magnet to me. Artists that inspire me range from Michael Jackson to most of the Motown greats, Kate Bush, Bjork, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and most of all my two lovely daughters.

Is there anyone that you’d like to work with in the future?
I love all genres of music and sounds should never be limited. I really like David Guetta. I dig the way he is pushing a dark sound with vocals to push dance production into the mainstream market. He is a versatile producer and I would love to create something with him and also create from an R&B perspective. I love the way he has a laid back sound with hip hop beats and a soulful moody sound, which is right up my street coming from a Motown background.

Any tips for us?
• Always believe in your lyrics or you won’t be able to vocally deliver them right and with confidence.
• Always have a strong hook / chorus cos that’s the part that people remember.
• Always be happy with your lead vocal laid down from session one as once it’s down it’s done, otherwise you will cringe every time you hear it if it is bad and I have learned you will never get the same vibe from it the second time around.
• Never wear bangles while recording cos it will leak into the track and time is money as the track will need to be cleaned.

Satoshi Fumi’s latest track ‘Hayabusa’ is pretty special. With a name that translates as ‘Wandering Falcon’, its no surprise that the song builds and drops just like its namesake.

The Club mix is a techy affair. A pounding kick and a relentless and highly infectious synth riff gives the song a whole new dimension with a super-crisp and clean production, which elevates the voice of Ms. Williams into sounding almost afloat above the beats, giving the vocal a slightly eerie feel.

John Rivera: As always, the main thing for Esteban and I is that we release music that will get people moving on the dance floor. By the response from the pre-release it seems like the tracks are doing just that for some pretty impressive DJs who we are personal fans of so that’s incredible. As always, we feel like it’s important to release music that’s different not only from what’s out there now, but different from releases we’ve done before. Working with Cevin Fisher was incredible so we hit the studio in 2012 on a high note. It’s a really fun process working together (with Esteban) because I think together we push ourselves to come up with something fresh – to outdo our previous work. It’s all about reinvention and forward movement!

How have things progressed since that first release? What are the key developments?

Esteban Carrasco: Since our first release we’ve been working like mad! It’s been something else to see and hear our music being played by some of the DJs that inspired us to begin producing original music in the first place and of course it encourages us to continue working on music as a duo and individually. I have to say that working on music with John has taken him and I to places musically that I may not have considered working as just a solo artist. As far as key developments go, John and I are starting to work on our on stage chemistry in front of an audience now – developing our DJ sets together and incorporating live elements into the shows.

Where do you hope your music is going to take you next?

We spoke to fast rising duo John Rivera & Esteban Carrasco ahead of the festive season to see what they are up to and get a little sneak preview of what they have planned on Slip N Slide and beyond in 2012…

What are you up to during the holiday break?
Obviously the holidays are a great time to reconnect with friends and family. This year, Esteban and I will take advantage of some down time from our individual projects to hit the studio together to work on a couple of projects that have been on hold.

Where can you be found playing over Xmas and on NYE?
John is playing in Austin, Texas at the swanky Lanai Rooftop Lounge and Esteban will be holding it down at Plum City Lounge for both Christmas and New Years in El Paso, Texas.

What track might we hear you playing at midnight on NYE?
Every year this is a tough call! Is it the right idea to go with something that sums up the preceding year? Or does it make more sense to introduce something brand new? NYE is always crazy so the decision will probably come down to a last minute gut reaction to the surrounding madness!

How has 2011 been for you and what was the highlight?
2011 has been a great year for John and I. We’ve finally hit the scene with some solid releases that we are really proud of and have had the opportunity to work with some of the industries most respected players. It all makes us both very hopeful and inspired for the year to come.

Tell us a bit about your forthcoming EP on Slip N Slide?
The new EP includes a really fun track called Bakdraft, which pays homage to our Latin heritage – and to our obsession with fire! It’s got somewhat of a gritty vibe with a techy bounce to it, so it’ll be fun to see how different DJs incorporate it into their sets. Our next release though is on Dirty Music Records, two tracks called ‘Paradis’ and ‘Arriba’.

What is you musical New Year’s resolution?
Musically it’s always the same, and that is to keep learning and honing our craft down to a fine point. 2012 is certainly going to be the year we define our sound. We want people to hear our tracks and recognize them as ours even before seeing that we produced it.

CEVIN FISHER

What has been your personal highlight of 2011?
2011 was a big year for me with the release of ‘Brazil’ and ‘The Séance’ on Slip N Slide, both tunes receiving big support from DJs all over the world. I also did a collaboration with Paul Strive on Cr2 called ‘I Don’t Mind’ which is featured on the new Chuckie mix compilation.
Also, I would have to say sharing the stage with some of EDM’s Biggest DJs .Danny Tenaglia, Erick Morillo, David Guetta, Steve Angello and Will-I-Am to name a few. It was great sharing the booth with such megastars here in NYC at Pacha.

What has been the most influential force in music this year?
My favourite tune of the year would have to be Ray Foxx’s ‘La Musica’ on Defected. Such a Brilliant tune and in my opinion a total Game Changer! Also, I really found my comfort zone using the Pioneer 2000s, I never leave home without ‘em. It was also great to see all of the successful festivals here in the States, selling out in record numbers and to see Swedish House Mafia sell out Madison Square Garden was phenomenal as well. It was also great for me to join forces with Soundz Management and MN2S. Having a proper team in place has always been the key for me. So 2012, get ready…

Where will you be playing over the holiday period?
My next show will be in Singapore and I’m really excited about that. It will be my first trip to Singapore, so I’m really looking forward to bringing my NYC House sound over there. I’ll also be playing at Stereo in Montreal and I’m really looking forward to playing there again and looking forward to my return to Switzerland to play at the Mad Club.

What track might we hear you playing at midnight on NYE?
Well as we get closer to the countdown to 2012 I am debating whether or not to play my new remix of ‘Love You Some More’ or Ray Foxx’s ‘La Musica’. Such a tough decision – perhaps a mash-up of the two?!

What are you looking forward to about 2012?
Lot’s of things in store for 2012, to start the year Strictly Rhythm will be releasing a tune I did with my good mate Seamus Haji called ‘I Love The Music’. Also we’ll be re-releasing one of my old classic’s ‘Love You Some More’ and I’m super excited about that, plus I’m doing a mix compilation for Slip N Slide in early 2012 which is great as it’s been a while since my last one. I also have tunes coming out on Toolroom, Factomania and lot’s more…

What has been your personal highlight of 2011?
My personal highlight would be returning to my home town Dallas, Texas (USA) after 4 years of living in London. I played a festival here with over 20,000 people. It was great to see the music scene’s growth and maturity since I’ve been away.

What has been the most influential force in music this year?
I believe the growth of our culture this past year in South Africa has been an amazing driving force for dance music. Music is truly the universal language.
Where will you be playing over the holiday period?
This year my label, Grin Music, is hosting a NYE party. Location is an amazing warehouse in the downtown district here in Dallas plus a few after party appearances on New Year’s Days too…

What track might we hear you playing at midnight on NYE?
One tune you might here me play is my 2011 remix of Kerri Chandler’s ‘Rain’.

What are you looking forward to about 2012?

I’m looking forward to releasing my next album which is currently untitled. I’ve also launch a sister label to Grin Music called Grin Traxx which focuses on more the old school Chicago house sound. Also working with the new generation of producers here locally. Stay tuned…

Cevin Fisher signed to Versuz Essentials
In other Cevin news, his track ‘My Sweet Love’, about a deranged stalker, has just been signed to Belgian imprint Versuz Essentials. The label, also known for releasing compilations from Pacha Ibiza and Sensation White, is aiming for a pre-Miami release.

‘Down In My soul’ is the latest of Cevin’s tracks to get signed, and what a track it is. A big booming house bomb with a super infectious vocal hook which Wally Lopez himself has agreed to remix for the release!

New York’s legendary producer/DJ Cevin Fisher lights up Slip N Slide Records this month with not one but two original releases.

‘Brazil’ offers wild Latin flavours and a truly infectious party rhythm while ‘The Séance’ comes on like a modern day ‘Higher State of Consciousness’, complete with killer drop.

We grabbed a moment with the man hot off the back of his Thanksgiving appearance at Pacha NYC with Erick Morillo and Danny Tenaglia to find out a little bit more about these two huge records.

First up, out today is amazing carnivalesque track ‘Brazil’. What is your personal connection to the country and its music?

“I’m always thinking about the world when I’m in the studio and lately I’ve been thinking about territories. I’ve always been fascinated with the rhythms and the energy of Brazil, so I wanted to do a track just to show my love for that country and the Brazilian people.”

What feeling did you want to bring to the track and why?

“Well I loved ‘E-Samba’ by Junior Jack and I wanted to attempt to come up with something that would work in Brazil, but also around the world and especially at festivals. So with the A&R direction of Christian over at Soundz and we kept sculpting away at Brazil until we had the versions we were happy with.”

How was your recent Thanksgiving Eve gig at Pacha? Did ‘Brazil’ and ‘The Séance’ (out next week, also on Slip N Slide) get played and how did they go down?

“My Thanksgiving Eve gig at Pacha was amazing, Just to be able to share the stage with Erick Morillo and Danny Tenaglia, two of my long-time friends and inspirational DJ/Producers, made the night even more special. I love the crew at Pacha too, they really know what they’re doing and putting the three of us together on the same bill was one for the books. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to drop ‘Brazil’ or ‘The Séance’, as I was trying really hard to keep the energy at a proper opening set level. It was very challenging!”

‘The Séance’ is possibly an even bigger potential dancefloor slayer that ‘Brazil’, so what is the story behind this track and its title?

“Well ‘The Séance’ was inspired by an old X-press 2 track that I used to hear at Sound Factory in NYC. I wanted to call out to the spirits of house music and let them know that we’re still here and they have not been forgotten. I wanted to bring that sound back, so that the younger generation of house music lovers could perhaps feel what we felt around the Sound Factory days.”
